Have you been told that you are not a good candidate for laser vision correction? Maybe your corneas are too thin or your prescription is too high. At Eye Specialty Group, we not only perform LASIK, but other vision correction procedures including Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) that may help reduce your dependence on glasses and contacts.
An ICL is a “phakic” intraocular lens that is implanted within the eye to work with your natural lens to improve focus and decrease or eliminate your dependence on thick eyeglasses. Unlike a traditional contact lens, this type of lens implant is designed to simply remain inside the eye permanently requiring no additional maintenance. Nonetheless, the lens can be removed if your vision changes or if it otherwise needs to be removed or replaced.
About the Visian ICL
The Visian ICL is placed between the corneal surface of the eye and the iris or just behind the iris. This lens remains in the eye and cannot be felt or seen and cannot dry out or become dirty like a standard contact lens. Visian ICL candidates typically experience extreme to moderate nearsightedness and have corneas too thin to be a LASIK candidate. Patients with large pupils or who have a history of dry eye may also be good candidates for this procedure. If you have been told you are not a candidate for LASIK, ask Eye Specialty Group about the Visian ICL.
As we age our eyes lose the flexibility to focus well on objects up close and at some point, usually in our 40’s, readers or bifocals are needed. For this very reason, Refractive Lens Exchange has grown increasingly popular with patients who are experiencing presbyopia or extreme farsightedness, for which LASIK or other vision correction procedures are not suitable. Refractive Lens Exchange or RLE is much like cataract surgery, and can provide improved vision near or far, and even an option that can provide both!
About the Procedure
RLE works by replacing your eye’s natural lens with an advanced clear Intraocular Lens (IOL) designed to improve the clarity of your vision and reduce or even eliminate your dependence on glasses. This procedure will provide many years of improved vision and because it removes your eye’s natural lens you will never develop cataracts!
